Pressure Washing: Your Best Bet for These Eight Tough Stains

There was once a time when pressure washing was used exclusively for cars and trucks. None of us would ever have dreamed of turning the lance on our driveways, say, or even our houses.

But times have changed, and those days are over. Now, most Massapequa and Oyster Bay residents will have likely used a pressure washer as a surface cleaner, as well as a car washer. Every day that goes by, more and more uses for these devices are being discovered. And as their usage goes up, so does their availability in big stores.

Here’s a list of eight tricky stains that professional pressure washing can help with. You might be surprised by some of them!

Gum

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a sidewalk in America that doesn’t have a long line of gum stains on it. We’ve all seen it happen. People spit out the gum, it gets trodden on and, over time, it becomes part of the furniture.

Thanks to pressure washing, this doesn’t have to be the case! By hand, gum is extremely hard to clean. With a pressure washer, it’s a simple task. Point your lance at the gummy mess in question, pull that trigger and the rest is history!

Rust

Rust is horrible, isn’t it? The result of iron or steel being exposed to water or air moisture, it isn’t just a complete eye sore (albeit it is), it can be pretty dangerous. Flakes of rust may look innocent, but they can cut and infect your hand with relative ease.

Traditionally, getting rid of rust on things like soccer goalposts has been a nightmare. Somebody usually has to file or sand down each individual flake and then re-paint the metal. Thankfully, it doesn’t have to be this way.

The sheer power of a pressure washer (our advice is to use a narrow nozzle) will blow away any rust from your goalposts with ease – saving you a huge amount of time and effort.

This works for garden furniture, too!

Paint

Much like rust, old flakes of paint can genuinely be dangerous. They can also make for a pretty ugly fence or door, and can be difficult to clean up.

Fortunately, this is another job where good quality, high-pressure surface cleaners can make short work of something that traditionally takes a long time. You’ve just got to be careful!

Before blasting your fence with 3000 PSI, make sure to test a small patch to ensure the water won’t blow your wood to bits. Then, provided it is ok, you just need to keep spraying one section at a time until the job is done.

Our top tip – keep the lance moving!

Mold

We’ve talked about rust, and we’ve talked about paint. Now we look at something that is equally as common, and potentially also just as dangerous. Mold!

Mold and mildew are very common in American gardens, forming on pavers, roofing, glass windows and more. And as well as looking pretty dirty, it can also be bad for your health.

Enter the pressure washer! Add a mold and mildew remover into the mix and you will not only get rid of the mold, but you’ll prevent it from coming back quite as easily.

Graffiti

We’d hope the majority of American homeowners don’t find themselves having to remove graffiti from their walls. However, we know this is a huge problem on public buildings in Massapequa, Oyster Bay and beyond. And it can be a nightmare to remove!

Even pressure washing doesn’t make easy work of removing tags, but it can and will do the job with a little bit of persistence. Your power washer will need to have at least 2000 PSI and we recommend keeping the nozzle a good two feet away from the surface.

Grease

So you have had a busy summer in the garden, firing up the barbeque and hosting regular parties. But now the summer is over, and you’re left with an extremely greasy grill. Do you really want to get on your hands and knees and scrub away all that stubborn grease?

We didn’t think so. Fortunately, you don’t have to! Get yourself a degreasing detergent and let your pressure washer do the work.

Oil

Do you own a car or a truck? The chances are, at some point in your life as a driver, you will have found some kind of oil leaking from your car.

Even when nothing is wrong, automobiles are renowned for shedding some oil here and there. Usually, it ends up on your driveway. And usually it leaves a pretty nasty stain!

Using a pressure washer and surface cleaner, you should be able to get rid of those stains pretty easily. Much like with grease stains, you may just need to throw a degreaser into the mix!

Deck

Decking is hugely popular in America and rightly so. It looks nice and gives you the ideal place to throw a few steaks on the grill and enjoy the weekend with your family and friends.

Unfortunately, even pre-treated decking doesn’t always cope well with the winter. After the first year, you’re likely to open the patio doors and find a pretty dirty deck, covered in leaves.

First off, remove those leaves! Then you can use a pressure washer to clean the deck. Our advice is to keep the pressure low, so you don’t strip the wood, and ensure the nozzle isn’t too close to the surface.
