What’s the Difference Between Power Washing and Pressure Washing?

Article Updated on September 25th 2023

Power washing is one of the most popular services we offer at Majestic Window Cleaning & Pressure Washing. All year round – but particularly in the warmer summer months here on Long Island – we get power washing requests from both commercial and residential clients, working or living in towns from Seaford to Wantagh.

In our experience, however, there is actually a lot of confusion out there as to what exactly power washing is. Specifically, many of the customers and clients we’ve dealt with haven’t been sure about the differences between power washing and pressure washing. These terms are often used interchangeably, but – although they’re definitely similar – they are not the same thing.

Along with providing excellent work for the good people of Long Island, we also like to educate people in the particulars of exterior cleaning. To that end, we want to help people understand the differences between power washing and pressure washing.

Briefly, let’s start with the similarities. In both power washing and pressure washing, water is applied to an exterior surface at an extremely high pressure. The aim is essentially to blast away whatever unwanted substances may have accumulated there, whether simple dirt and grime or something more sinister like mildew or mold.

As a quick side note, this high-powered approach is definitely not suitable for all buildings. If your property is quite old or has more sensitive surfaces, then power washing could prove risky. In the worst-case scenario, it might cause lasting damage to your home or business premises. In these cases, we’d recommend using soft washing instead; another service that Majestic Window Cleaning & Pressure Washing gladly provides!

So, with the similarities established, what separates power washing from its exterior cleaning cousin? By far the biggest difference is that – with power washing – the water is actually heated before being used. This makes it significantly more effective at cleaning hard exterior surfaces, whether they be the actual outside of a building, or a patio, driveway, path, or any other feature around the property.

You can probably already see why power washing is an incredibly useful service! If you’re wondering why everybody doesn’t just use power washing, instead of pressure washing… well, that’s a good question! If you’re looking to carry out your own exterior cleaning, then power washing equipment will undoubtedly be more expensive. If you’re willing to hire a professional company like Majestic Window Cleaning & Pressure Washing, however, then power washing is probably the way to go.

It doesn’t matter whereabouts you’re based in Long Island, whether in Wantagh, Seaford, or anywhere else. Nor does it matter whether you’re looking to have a residential or commercial property cleaned. Whatever the specifics, power washing is an incredibly effective and versatile service, capable of ridding any hard surface of dirt, mildew, mold, or mud.

Here at Majestic Window Cleaning & Pressure Washing, we’ve been carrying out power washing on Long Island for over 25 years, and we’ve consistently pleased both ourselves and our customers with the results we’ve managed to achieve.
